Jurassic World Rebirth Trailer Shows ScarJo in Action Mode
Universal Pictures today dropped the final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, one last look for fans before the new installment in the Jurassic franchise releases to theaters nationwide over the Fourth of July weekend. Jurassic World Rebirth hits theaters on July 2, 2025. The new film is set to reboot the Jurassic World series, while taking the franchise back to its original roots, at least geographically. Jurassic World Rebirth is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali.
Jurassic World Rebirth is the fourth film in the Jurassic World franchise and the seventh in the overall Jurassic franchise that began with the Steven Spielberg-directed Jurassic Park in 1993. Jurassic World Rebirth was also written by David Koepp, who wrote the screenplay for the original Jurassic Park film and its sequel, The Lost World, in 1997.
Jurassic World Rebirth Synopsis and Trailer
According to the official synopsis, the film follows the remaining dinosaurs in the world five years after Jurassic World Dominion. In an inhospitable world, many dinosaur species are left living in small, guarded pockets of equatorial land, where their old ecosystems can be replicated. The three largest dinosaurs in these ecosystems, in terms of land, sea, and air, are home to a genetic code that is thought to be the key to a revolutionary, life-saving drug. Scarlett Johansson plays Zora Bennett, an undercover special ops team leader assigned to lead a team on a top-secret mission to retrieve that genetic code. However, they soon find their mission compromised by a family of civilians on a boating trip that was also derailed by a sea-dinosaur attack. The survivors are stranded on a long-abandoned island that was a secret Jurassic Park research outpost, which, as the trailer suggests, may hide some even darker secrets than the dinosaurs.
Jurassic World Rebirth Cast
Jurassic World Rebirth boasts an impressive roster of returning talent and new faces. In addition to Johansson and Ali, the cast includes Rupert Friend as pharmaceutical company representative Martin Krebs; Jonathan Bailey as paleontologist Henry Loomis; and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as shipwrecked family father, Reuben Delgado. Luna Blaise, David Iacano, and Audrina Miranda all play Reuben’s children. Joining Johansson on the special ops team is Bechir Sylvain. Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge also star in the film in undisclosed roles.
A large portion of the footage in the February-released first trailer has also been incorporated into this latest trailer. The first official trailer emphasized the film’s premise, visual aesthetics, and nostalgia-inducing casting choices, and this second trailer is no different, even repurposing some of that footage. The trailer opens with a suspenseful scene of a worker in a hazmat suit being cornered by a hungry T Rex in a laboratory. In a familiar scene from the franchise, the worker frantically calls for help, only to find that it is too late to be saved. The trailer then proceeds to a barrage of action and tension-building moments, culminating in a somewhat shocking scene of one of the new special ops team members sacrificing himself for his team. The trailer also teases the film’s most visually impressive sequence so far, a heist of a pterosaur egg, which is described in dialogue as “the pterosaur” and “a flying carnivore the size of an F-16.” The trailer also features more glimpses of the now iconic franchise raptors and a new dinosaur predator: the mosasaur. Dialogue from the trailer also reveals that the island was intentionally chosen to be the place to house “the worst of the worst,” those dinosaurs that proved to be the most volatile and difficult to contain after cloning.
Jurassic World Rebirth appears to be keeping many of the elements of the franchise that have become hallmarks of its action and general tone, while at the same time giving it a twist. Returning to the original Jurassic Park research island five years later, since the end of Dominion, while at the same time making it a science station overrun by dinosaurs and bio-terrorist secrets, is an obvious attempt to stir up fan nostalgia. At the same time, introducing new animal and human threats is the unpredictable x-factor. If the film does a true reset of the franchise, only time will tell. The trailer and casting certainly check many of the boxes that have been successful in past films: an assembled special ops team, high science, moral ambiguity, and, as always, dinosaurs out of control.
Jurassic World Rebirth Trailer
The trailer is rife with action and doesn’t shy away from some of the more narrow escape sequences fans have come to expect. This includes several different scenes showing a dinosaur chase through a jungle, more contained areas like a submerged shipwreck, and attempts to hide and outsmart dinosaurs by the various humans on the island. Johansson also appears ready to lead her own grittier, tactical, and edgy version of the franchise’s usual survival against nature trope.
Jurassic World Rebirth will be released to theaters nationwide on July 2, 2025.
