Halloween-Themed Electric Vehicle Showcase Brings Community Together
On Saturday, October 31, 2026, electric vehicle owners convened at The Market at Pepper Place in Birmingham for a free, Halloween-themed electric vehicle showcase. The event aimed to share the day-to-day experiences and benefits of driving electric vehicles (EVs) with visitors in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
A Wide Range of Electric Vehicles on Display
Over a dozen EV owners participated, showcasing a broad selection of electric vehicles. The event offered attendees the chance to see and discuss a mix of full-size electric pickup trucks from Chevrolet and Rivian, SUVs from Kia, Lucid, and Volvo, as well as sedans from Tesla, BMW, and Audi. The diverse array demonstrated the rapid growth and variety within the electric vehicle market.
Frunk-or-Treat: Celebrating EV Innovation and Halloween
The showcase adopted a festive "frunk-or-treat" theme, playing on the unique front storage compartments—called “frunks”—found in many electric vehicles. Unlike traditional cars, EVs often have extra storage space under the hood due to the absence of an internal combustion engine. Children and families enjoyed collecting candy directly from these frunks, while some owners donned creative Halloween costumes, adding to the event’s festive atmosphere.
Education and Open Conversation About EV Ownership
The event was coordinated by Drive Electric Alabama and supported by the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition. Michael Staley, president of the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition, attended dressed as Woody from Toy Story and showcased his electric Chevrolet pickup truck. “We find great value in being able to share the collective experience of Alabama EV owners with no pressure or sales pitch,” Staley said. He emphasized that the event provided a unique opportunity for the public to interact with actual EV owners for candid discussions and to answer questions about EV ownership.
Casey Foster, executive director of the coalition, also took part in the event, displaying his full-size, propane-powered pickup truck, further broadening the conversation about alternative fuel vehicles.
Part of a Broader Statewide Drive Electric Initiative
This Birmingham showcase was one of more than a dozen EV events Drive Electric Alabama has organized across the state in 2026. Other cities, including Huntsville, Cullman, Mobile, Irvington, Millbrook, and Rickwood Caverns State Park, have hosted similar gatherings. The Pepper Place event was originally scheduled for October 10 but was postponed until October 31 due to the threat of inclement weather from Hurricane Isaias.
Looking Ahead: Continuing EV Awareness in Alabama
Through these events, organizers aim to foster greater awareness and understanding of electric vehicles, their practical benefits, and contribute to a growing community of EV enthusiasts across Alabama. Attendees at the Birmingham showcase left with more knowledge about electric vehicles and a taste of the fun community spirit that accompanies EV ownership.
